I love the quilting community for so many reasons but one major reason is because of the generosity and compassion of the whole group. Throughout the history of our country whether it be a war, natural disaster, or other tragedy; quilters have jumped in to action to make quilts in order to provide some comfort to the victims of a tragedy and to deal with their grief.
Sadly, another tragedy occurred this last Sunday in Orlando and many people are injured and grieving. 49 lives were lost in a horrible event that for all the victims started out as an evening of fun and joy with those they love.Once again, quilters are stepping up to help the victims of the tragedy in Orlando with quilts. Alissa Lapinsky, the President of the Orlando Modern Quilt Guild has organized an effort to create quilts made of hearts in bright, rainbow colors to represent everyone affected, and obviously represent the love we are sending them. You can find more information at the Orlando MQG website. You can also find additional details and the sign up form at the Modern Quilt Guild’s website.
I was able to make some blocks this week and will be mailing them to Orlando this week. If you’re a quilter please take some time to make a block(s) and send it to be included in a quilt (or make a quilt or donate quilting supplies or all of the above). After all, what feels safer and more secure than wrapping up in a beautiful quilt that was made with love?
