2016 Designer Mystery Block of the Month…

OK Seriously… the Fat Quarter Shop has done it again. A couple months ago I signed up to do the 2016 Designer Mystery Block of the Month mainly because I fell in love with the palette. The fabrics are Little Miss Sunshine by Lella Boutique for Moda. When I opened my first shipment this month I about passed out from cuteness overload. I love everything about this fabric from the color to the patterns. I love those flying geese!!!

Just recently, I saw a post on the Fat Quarter Shop’s Facebook page regarding starching your fabric before cutting. I found the post on their blog here,  it’s from last year. I’ve always gone back and forth on whether or not to use starch. But after I watched this video I realized I was doing it all all wrong. So I decided to try this starching method on this block. Basically you spray all your fabric on both sides till it’s soaked and then let it air dry. Once the fabric is dry, iron the fabric as usual and then start cutting. This method really helped perfect my cutting accuracy and keep the bias edges of the triangles stable and it shows up in the points on the flying geese. Everything came together very accurately so I will continue to use this method.

  1. Great tip on how to use starch! I go back and forth on it as well. I’d heard of dipping fabric in starch and letting it dry but that just wasn’t for me. But I could handle spraying both sides! That’s not too much trouble, and the results are always good.
