Christmas Barn Quilt Swap…

If you follow me an Instagram you may have seen that I signed up to participate in the Bonnie and Camille Christmas Barn Quilt Swap. This swap has a quick turn around of just about 3 weeks but it only required that we make a Barn Quilt our partner will love with no extras. I’m always down for sewing with Bonnie and Camille fabrics and I have a nice stash so I signed up.

My partner said that she mostly decorates her home at Christmas in white, cream and grey with mild touches of red and green so I attempted to do something low volume. First I pulled some fabrics that I thought would fit low-volume with touches of red and green. These fabrics were to provide inspiration and I knew that I would most likely not use all of them. In her inspiration mosaic, my partner had posted a few blocks that she liked so I chose one that I thought would allow me to focus on low volume fabrics in the layout with one section of red that would pop.

On Instagram the vote was split… 3 for green, 3 for grey and 2 for red. When I was visiting my parents last weekend I let my mom decide and she chose the green. I also added hanging sleeves to the back, so my partner has some flexibility in how she uses this quilt.

I really love how this mini turned out. The grey fabric with the tiny rosebud prints might be one of my favorite prints from Bonnie and Camille. I hope my partner thinks this low-volume mini fits her home at the holidays. I really enjoy doing these swaps, they make you think about design elements that you may not normally consider when you are sewing. If you are on Instagram and have never done a swap you might want to think about signing up for the next one that piques your interest.
