Valentine Mini Tutorial…

 

Last week I posted these cute little Valentine Mini quilts so today I am sharing a tutorial to make the mini. This will make a 12 ½” finished block.

Cutting Directions:

Background Fabric A 4 – 2 ½” x 2 ½” squares
B 16 – 1 ½” x 1 ½” squares
C 4 – 2 ½” x 5 ½” rectangles
D 4 – 1 ½” x 1 ½” squares
Hearts E 4 – 3 ½” x 3 ½” squares
F 8 – 2 ½” x 3 ½” rectangles
Pinwheel G 4 – 1 ½” x 1 ½” squares

Sewing Directions:

Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the fabric B squares. With right sides facing, layer a fabric B square on the top left of a fabric E rectangle. Stitch on the drawn line and trim ¼” away from the seam.

Repeat on the top right hand corner. Top heart unit should measure 2 ½” x 3 ½”. Make eight.

Assemble a top heart unit and one fabric A square. Top row unit should measure 2 ½” x 5 ½”. Make four.

Assemble a top heart unit and one fabric E square. Bottom row unit should measure 3 ½” x 5 ½”. Make four.

Assemble a top row unit to a bottom row unit to make a heart unit. Heart unit should measure 5 ½” x 5 ½”. Make four.

Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the fabric D squares. With right sides facing layer a fabric D square on top of a fabric G square. Stitch on the drawn line and trim away ¼” from the seam. Half square triangle unit should measure 1 ½” x 1 ½”. Make four.

Assemble the half square triangle units to make a pinwheel unit. Pinwheel unit should measure 2 ½” x 2 ½”. Make one.

Assemble the block as shown in the diagram. Block should measure 12 ½” x 12 ½”.

valentines-table-runnerQuilt your Valentine mini as desired and bind as desired to finish. This block would also make a very sweet quilt for someone as well. I like how when you put the blocks together they create the effect of sashing with a pinwheel cornerstone.
