Happy Galentine’s Day…

Are you familiar with Galentine’s Day? I was not until Island Batiks challenged the 2017 Ambassadors to come up with a small project to celebrate Galentine’s Day. It turns out that Galentine’s Day was started by the character Leslie Knope on the TV show Parks and Recreation. According to Leslie, it’s only the best day of the year.

Galentine’s Day occurs on February 13th and it’s basically like Valentine’s Day except you spend it with your best girlfriends. The people who are your true soulmates according to Leslie.

Regarding Galentine’s Day, Leslie stated, “every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas.” Personally, I think brunch is a great idea but you can celebrate Galentine’s Day any way you want.

For my Galentine’s Day project I chose these pretty light pink fabrics and this turquoise Stash Builder from Island Batiks.

I chose to use make a Half Hearted block from a tutorial by Amy Sinibaldi at Nana Company. I love the modern effect this block achieves while still looking soft and delicate.

For the quilting I did simple straight line quilting in a grid which I think shows off these pretty Island Batik fabrics. I like how the turquoise batik fabric has a dark pink swirled through it which makes the pink fabrics in the heart pop.

Make sure you celebrate your best friends this Galentine’s Day and I hope you also have a Happy Valentine’s Day!

Happy Galentines Day. I’ll be spending Valentines Day with my local guild so I guess it will be Galentines day on Valentines Day.
