Curvalicious Curves…

Curvalicious Quilts

As you may recall, the Island Batik Ambassadors challenge for June was to incorporate curved piecing into a project. Today I get to reveal my completed project for June where I used the Modern Melons pattern.

Funny, since I started working on this quilt I’ve been eating a lot of watermelon. I love how the watermelon is nearly identical to the red in the melon slice near the top of this photo.

Here in Colorado, we look forward to cantaloupe season every summer. Rocky Ford is a small town in Colorado and the cantaloupes that are grown here are famous, unfortunately they are not in season yet. Soon! I once described the experience of eating Rocky Ford cantaloupe, “like eating a bowl of sunshine”. When I saw that yellow and orange batiks I was reminded of that.

I really love how this mini quilt turned out. Curved piecing was a fun challenge that I was nervous about but it turned out to be easy.

The tastes of summer on a quilt. Those watermelon slices were a great idea for this curved challenge.

Nothing better than a melon from Rocky Ford! Ate many of them growing up. Your quilt is adorable 🙂
