The Quilter’s Path: Plan It, Stitch It, Quilt It…

Over the weekend I had the opportunity to take Christa Watson’s Craftsy class, The Quilter’s Path: Plan It, Stitch It, Quilt It. Before I go any further I want to let you know that I received this class free of charge with the agreement that I would blog my honest opinion about the class.

I had never taken a Craftsy class prior to this one and I have to say it was a good experience. It is very easy to pause the class, stop and leave the class only to return to it where you left off or to re-watch portions of the class.

Christa Watson of Christa Quilts shows how to quilt on real quilts and blocks during class, so the class materials include a free pattern for the Pinwheels quilt. I did not have time to make the Pinwheels quilt for the class but I did have some orphan blocks that I prepped to quilt along with Christa. While taking the class, you can view the videos, you can take notes, ask questions of Christa, and upload images of what you are working on. I have not used these features yet but I know that I’m going to watch this class again while quilting a larger quilt and plan to use these features.

During the class, Christa focuses on quilting with your walking foot (or dual feed), free-motion techniques, and she shows how to combine designs to create a truly custom look. I worked along with Christa using my walking foot and I was very pleased with the results.

On one of the orphan quilt blocks, I tried Christa’s curved grid technique which is a quilting technique I’ve always admired but never tried. Christa provides some great pointers on how to approach this technique so that you have a plan before you stitch and then how to see the plan through. I feel really confident about this technique and know that I will be using it on a quilt soon.

The other technique I attempted from The Quilter’s Path was sewing a spiral. I love this effect and have never really felt confident to attempt it. Now, I know I can knock this one out with no problem I love it.

Overall, I’m very happy with the experience I had with taking Christa’s class, The Quilter’s Path: Plan It, Stitch It, Quilt It. She had so many other quilting techniques that she explains in a very understandable way, these are just the 2 that I chose to do. I would certainly recommend that someone just starting out at quilting or who wants to sharpen their skills take this class, there is great information here. If you are interested in The Quilter’s Path: Plan It, Stitch It, Quilt It, you can take the class yourself at Craftsy. The best part is that for a limited time the class is available for 50% off if you use this link. The discount will show up when you add the class to your cart and expires October 5, 2017.

Great review Stephanie. I love taking Craftsy classes. Even for advanced fiber artists, you will always pick up at least 1 new snippet of information that will transform your work.

I have taken lots of Craftsy classes and have never been disappointed. Christa Watson’s The Quilter’s Path: Plan It, Stitch It, Quilt It was the last one that I watched. I LOVED it. Like you, I tried many of the techniques and feel much more confident. Her teaching style was awesome.
