Border Fun With Island Batik…

Last week I left off here with the SEW mini that I am making for the October Island Batik Challenge for creative borders and binding. After giving it a little bit of thought I started to come up with a plan.

The first thing I did was add a 1″ border to the original mini. I wanted to use the deepest purple fabric to offset the background fabric.

But another thing I like to do with borders is to add a 1/4″ finished strip of the background fabric in the borders. To do this, you have to cut your strips 3/4″ wide.

After a little bit of pondering (not too long) I decided that piano keys would be a really impactful border for this mini. I figured out the math and started cutting and sewing.

I love that 1/4″ strip of background fabric nestled in the borders. Is it just me, or does the green fabric kind of glow in this?

I have been wanting to try a piano key border. Sometime can you explain the math?
