In 2019 Fat Quarter Shop has relaunched a number of their patterns and today they are relaunching the Jolly Braid Tote Bag pattern. The bag is really cute and is a perfect size for going to a Farmer’s Market or running errands. The pattern calls for a Jolly Bar (a precut that is available exclusively at Fat Quarter Shop) and some yardage for the lining and outer panels. For my bag, I used Modern Background Colorbox from Zen Chic for Moda and Bella Solids in Graphite.
The Jolly Braid Tote Bag uses Soft and Stable to give the bag some structure so it is free standing, because who wants a bag that is always slouching? I also sewed webbed strapping into the handles so the handles have more structure. The handles on this bag are nice and long so they fit easily on your shoulder.
The pretty Herringbone panel was made using Fat Jelly Braid Triangles On A Roll. The most time consuming portion of making this bag was making the Herringbone Panel. Once that was finished, the entire bag went together in a couple of hours. I’m really happy with my bag and have been using it when I’m out and about this summer.
